Tune In

My favorite compositions are the ones that seem to exist forever. They’re present, vibrating in the air around us, and as we adjust the dial on our consciousness, we’re suddenly let in on the secret. We tune in for a little while, then the signal goes fuzzy and we’re back on the outside. But the music is still humming out there somewhere; it has always been and will always be.

This is also how I feel about composition. I don’t believe that I create anything, really. I simply tune into a vibration, and, like the block of stone with a statue inside, I let the composition reveal itself to me. I open up to the spirit, the muse, that wants to become.
