Audition Prep Checklist

Process over outcome.

There are so many things in life that we can’t control: where we were born, what color our hair is, how many McDonald’s french fries come in a bag…

Similarly, when you’re prepping for an audition, you have no control over what the judges are looking for, who else shows up, what time of day you play.

In other words, you have no control over the outcome. What you DO have control over is yourself, and more specifically, your preparation process.

For many years, I prepared for auditions with no real plan, practicing lots but haphazardly, working blindly with no clear markers or goals.

Now I do something new. During my past three auditions, I’ve created a process that reflects my musical values - from score study to mock auditions.

Then I made a checklist template where I record my progress. This gives me achievable goals, accountability, and ensures even preparation.

My hope for this resource is that it will serve you as a starting place, and that you can mold it to your own musical process and values. Happy auditions!
