Easy Permission Marketing
Permission Marketing, a term first coined by Seth Godin, is the idea that sharing a message is most effective (and most ethical) when you’re sharing it with people who have given you their explicit permission to contact them.
An email sign-up list is an easy way to employ permission marketing to promote your project. By bringing one of these bad boys to your events and concerts, you can build a base of people who have given you their trust and permission to contact them directly, who like what you're bringing to the table, and want to hear what you have to say.
Whenever you send an email to your list, be sure to always include an “unsubscribe” option in your message. If you're using MailChimp or Constant Contact, these are built into each email, but if you're writing messages directly to your list, you'll have to come up with your own opt-out system. For example - "If you no longer want to receive these messages, reply to this email with 'No thanks.'"
