Holding Doors for Bassists

As a double bassist, the worst part of my day is when I have to go through a door with my bass and stool. The worst part of my week is when I have to go through one of those two-doors-in-a-row operations.

So naturally, we bassists are eternally grateful when a friend or stranger holds a door for us. Here are a few rules of thumb when holding doors for bassists:

1. Get to the door first and take the lay of the land.

2. If it’s push door, push it open, walk through, and hold the door from the inside.

3. If it’s a pull door, pull it open, stand outside, and follow the bassist through the entry.

In all seriousness, when someone holds the door for us, it’s the best thing in the world. On behalf of bassists, thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Thank you.
