I’ve been doing a bunch of long-distance driving lately. It’s been real fun…
Driving for long periods of time is a weird activity because, while it’s repetitive and boring, any mistakes you make could result in disaster, so you need to maintain a high level of concentration.
While driving, I began to reflect on the many activities that I do in my musical career that feel similar to long-distance driving: editing scores, downloading and organizing music, formatting files, exporting photos.
These activities often take a long time, are a bit boring, and require little brain power, but they take lots of concentration because it’s super-obvious if I make a mistake or overlook something.
I’ve found that the best way to tackle these repetitive tasks is to take my time, stay present and calm, take deep breaths, and give every action and decision love, attention, and care.
