Who Needs a Friend?
As a performer, mingling before/after concerts can seem a little daunting. It’s especially uncomfortable to break into circles of people chatting and be like, “Heyyyy….can I join your social circle?”
Now, flip the narrative. You’ve gone out on a limb and are attending a concert in a new city, and you don’t know anyone. It’s awkward to stand there alone, but maybe a little too scary to break into a chat circle and be like, “Heyyyy….”
Back to being a performer. Instead of breaking into a chatty chat circle, find the person at your show who really needs a friend – that person standing alone and feeling awkward, who would be super relieved to talk with someone. Anyone. Introduce yourself, and chat with them :)
It’s easier for you than breaking into a circle, and super nice and relieving for them. Because, now they have a friend – a performer no less! – and they no longer have to face the awkwardness of standing alone in the corner sipping their beer.
