Recording Auditions (Best Practices)

Every winter, I record a whole bunch of auditions, and this winter is no different. Here are a few tips and tricks that I’ve picked up along the way:

Buy a tripod.

Charge your batteries the night before.

Check for distracting objects in the background.

Mark the spot where you’re going to stand.

Shine some light on your front. If it’s day, face the windows.

Start a new recording track for each take.

Say the piece name and take# at the beginning of each track.

Take notes while you record (take, track, thoughts).

Find a buddy to help.

Don’t try to be perfect; just try to be you :)
